You know what? Finishing the second draft of a novel and realizing you maybe-sorta-kinda don't like it is kind of unpleasant. Plan to work on something else for a bit, and revisit this one later. Very mixed feelings. Hrm.

Okay. Maybe everyone in the world has seen this... but I discovered the book in a B&N in Washington this weekend, and have been hysterically laughing ever since. I don't know what it is. It's just... so funny. I guess weirdly cute images + random sarcastic humor = HA HA HA HA for me.

If anyone would like to submit a piece of fiction -- length, genre, style at your discretion -- to the summer issue of Joie de Vivre, drop me a note or a comment.
Drafts due by June 20th, issue will go up in July.

Out of curiosity.
You don't have to tell me why, though you can if you like.
So. Favourite work of fiction?

Apart from never, ever seeing that time of day---the description is pretty accurate. 6:49am just happens more like... hmm, 9:39 am, in my life. :)
You're the time of day right around sunrise, when the sky is still a pale bluish gray. The streets are empty, and the grass and leaves are a little bit sparkly with dew. You are the sound of a few chirpy birds outside the window. You are quiet, peaceful, and contemplative. If you move slowly, it's not because you're lazy – it's because you know there's no reason to rush. You move like a relaxed cat, pausing for deep stretches that make your muscles feel alive. You are long sips of tea or coffee (out of a mug that's held with both hands) that slowly warm your insides just as the sun is brightening the sky.

On a whim back in October I entered Nocturne into the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Contest.
Today I found out I made it into the semi-finals.
The link is here:

So, if you could download, read, review, and pass along the link? I'd be really thrilled.
I'm kind of shaking right now.

Well, I can't believe I finally get to make this post.
About a year and a half ago, I decided I wanted to start an online literary magazine called Joie de Vivre. It would be pretty open-ended where people got to write basically whatever they wanted, and I would edit it all together and make things pretty, and at the end I would have a place where writers I know and like and admire could find an (albeit small) avenue for publishing. A lot of things happened to me in the last year and a half, and Joie de Vivre kept getting pushed to the bottom of my list of priorities.
One of the best things about living in New York is that because I can't legally have a job, I've had to work a lot harder at writing.
So, here is Joie de Vivre
It's not perfect, but it's full of things I genuinely like and that I'm proud of. Read. Enjoy. Tell other people about it. Writer friends of mine... think about submitting (the next issue will go up in time for Valentine's Day.)
(And, wen, I'm so sorry I didn't use your design. If I understood websites better, I would have, but I had no idea how to put everything together without .... visuals. <3)
